  HUGH WALPOLE
b.1884 d.1941
Walpole was a popular and critical success in his day, and his 'Herries' books are still in print. However, his posthumous reputation was blighted by Somerset Maugham's devastating portrayal of him in Cakes and Ale. Walpole's short stories are appreciated by aficionados of supernatural fiction.
