Talbot Mundy wrote 155 seperately published short
stories, novels, articles and poems, with 41 books appearing under
his name. Mundy was a non-conformist with a passion for freedom.
His writings encompassed not only adventure and fantasy inspired
by his years of wandering throughout the East but also historical
novels, philosophical treatises inspired by his studies of
comparative religion, spiritualism, the occult and
Theosophy.
While sharing certain similarites in background
and style with Kipling, H Rider Haggard, and Ganpat, spiritually
and structurally Mundy was more akin to Joseph Conrad, as his
characters were philosopher-adventurers seeking to understand
destiny and the mystery of existence.
The novels of Mundy are recognised because of
their deep respect for other religions, races and
philosophies.
