  RICHARD ADAMS
(b.1920)
The classic Watership Down won the Guardian Award and Carnegie Medal. Much of Adams' best work is concerned with man's cruelty to animals. His novel, The Girl in a Swing is a ghost story told with some delicacy and power. (the first issue was withdrawn through fear of libel, and among the changes made was the name of the heroine.)

Novel
The Girl in a Swing, Allen Lane (London), 1980

ditto, Knopf (New York), 1980
